As the plans are in the pipeline for MEHA to introduce an internship program where MEHA partners are linked with Environmental Health students seeking internship opportunities; MEHA had a chance to support the recruitment process of volunteers who supported Polio Vaccination campaign in Blantyre District.
This happened in response to a call which was made by the Blantyre DEHO seeking a pool of competitive volunteers to support the work. In response, MEHA reached out to Environmental Health Students and fresh graduates who are not yet on any employment to support the work.
The DEHO, appreciates MEHAs support upon short notice. \”The engagement of the EH students as Special vaccination teams was very helpful. The district attained a 106% geographical coverage and passed the Lot Quality Assurance Sampling [LQAS] Quality check, third round in a roll along together with Chitipa. Of particular interest is Bangwe health whose coverage was very good due round Special teams of dedicated MUBAS students who gave it all to see every child vaccinated\”-said Penjani Chunda, Blantyre DEHO.
On the other hand, the students also feel to have been empowered. A 4th Year Student Precious Nkunika said that-\”It was a good experience, and it was certainly an eye opener on the work that is involved in these health campaigns. It would greatly be appreciated if more of these opportunities could be made for students\”.
MEHA president is assuring partners to look forward to the internship program as it will not only benefit students but also Partners in various ways.
